I had a check engine light and I brought it into the dealership. The dealership quoted me 2x the standard price for parts and labor so I called around to get another quote (probably 5 auto shops). Precision was the 5th place I called since no one else was able to get back to me quickly. Precision sent me a reasonable quote within minutes. When I arrived John Rodriguez was extremely friendly and said they could turn it around in less than a day. I barely ever leave reviews but I felt like I needed to for Precision Auto Repair. They honestly made my day so much better after getting no help from other shops that were closer to where we are staying. We are from out of state so we don't have a regular auto shop in SF. But if we did live here, I'd definitely bring my business to these guys. Really appreciate it!

After 10 years of going to the dealership, I decided to branch out and try a highly recommended local auto service shop. I could not be happier with Precision Auto. They are friendly, extremely quick, absolutely reasonable, and they actually knew who I and my car were, as opposed to the dealership Who never had any history of service on my car and who never were able to answer a question or return a call. My main reason for leaving the dealership was that every time I went in they recommended three to 5000 $ in repairs for a car that was worth about 7000. So happy to have found this great local shop that takes such pride in their work.

Experience here was great. John is a really nice guy. EDIT: My car was broken into this past weekend. I had an overall feeling of discomfort after that happened, and John and his team were kind enough to check and make sure there were no other damages made to my car. My car hasn't looked this good since it was new! A few months back my car got stolen and needed some work. I picked Precision Auto Repair because they are certified with my insurance company, the location was convenient to the city, and they offer detailing. They were incredibly easy to work with, and I got updates every step of the way. Excellent customer service. While my insurance covered the balance, the total for the bill was very reasonable. Once all the parts were in my car was finished quickly and it's sparkling like new. I'll definitely be back the next time I need a detail or any body work.

Initially it took them more than a day to respond to my query email, but then the process of booking my oil change and wiper blade installation was really easy. I brought my Volvo XC40 in at 8am and they said it'll be ready in the afternoon, but at 11am I already got a text saying the vehicle is ready. Pricing is really reasonable and final figure was what was actually quoted. Nice friendly attitude, they even smile, imagine - auto mechanics and they are not miserable. Overall, very pleasant experience, I'll be coming back.

I'm doing a mechanic search and had to check in on my old mechanic, Precision Auto, to see how things are with them. Realized that I've never left a review -- so here it is: Bluntly put, the family over at Precision Auto Repair runs the best mechanic shop in Northern California. I can confidently say this in my 20 years of car ownership of four different Subarus across multiple towns and cities from SF to the Nevada state line. John, Jr, and Dad serviced two high-mileage cars of mine. There's a Nathan for You episode where the business plan is to put a mechanic on a lie detector when diagnosing car trouble, and I think we've all felt this when working with some mechanics that are out there - I certainly had a mechanic in college who took advantage of me. Precision is different. Precision can expertly translate complicated mechanical issues to the typical car owner in a way that even the most novice car owner can both understand and make their own judgment on where one should prioritize fixing their car. There are those mechanical issues, especially with older or high mileage cars, that can lead to endless money pits to fix. Precision recognizes this and provides honest, transparent guidance to servicing your vehicle without just opting to drain their customers' bank accounts if service doesn't make sense as a vehicle reaches the end of its serviceable life. In a city like SF, where everything comes at a premium price, it's nice to know that there are still businesses like Precision Auto whose mission is to deliver fair service and truly affordable prices. Car ownership comes with unexpected and hidden costs - Precision does their best to give customers the most value for the money paid to fix their car. I've never felt overburdened by car trouble expenses when working with Precision. Even when I couldn't afford work that needed to be done on my car, Precision helped to set expectations on timelines and car usage until more severe mechanical issues would arise when putting off car work which helped me in budgeting and planning for necessary service. When you drive your car into their garage, they make it a point to greet you personally and build trust with you as they diagnose your car. John had a knack for knowing the time of year and what I would be doing with my car during that season. He would diagnose and provide service recommendations based on the usage level I would be putting the car through for the next couple of months, whether it is winter driving or long summer road trips. Precision would work around my schedule and offer secure overnight storage if my job prevented me from same-day dropoff or pickup (while having no problem with quick same-day service if it was an easy enough job). They are great at communicating findings and cost through text. While my car was being worked on throughout the day, I would always know precisely what the issue was, how important it was to fix it, and what the cost was. Working with Precision made me a better car owner in the level of detail they would communicate, along with the driving type impacts on mechanical systems. I've never had more trust in a mechanic to keep my car in its best shape while knowing that they won't overcharge me for a service or where the service doesn't make sense. When my dealer service plan runs out on my new Subaru, I'll make the trip from Oakland to Precision Auto to keep my car running at its best.

This is the best auto repair shop I've had the pleasure of using - not just in SF, but across the country! Family run, very prompt service, detailed, and always willing to help. They're also located right next to a Lyft bike docking station which makes dropping your vehicle off a breeze.

I brought my car in because of a weird noise inside the wheel. Precision Auto Repair fixed that quickly (it was just a screw that I picked up on the road and got stuck in the brakes). While looking at my car, the technician suggested that they could greatly improve the appearance of my headlights. I was a bit suspicious, having bought a kit and tried to do it myself. They went ahead and did the work after expressing confidence that my lights could be improved -- it was a bit pricey (around $300), but by golly the work was spectacular. My car hasn't looked so good is a long time!

There are some businesses which just compel you to write a good review. I was stuck near divis with a dead battery and I walked up to several places where I was rudely told that they won't lend me their jump start kit. Then I walked into precision auto repair and John without batting an eyelid told me to take his portable jumpstart kit back to my car and even gave me his card incase I ran into troubles using it. I jumped my car and brought into his garage where he replaced my battery and verified that there were no other electrical drainages. No appointments needed. He was very thorough with communication and had a very humble and honest attitude.

John exudes a calm and patient demeanor -he listened sympathetically to my struggles at other repair shops regarding my Mazda 3 hatchbacks broken lighting system and to my somewhat convoluted backstory. In the same day he took my car and just three hours later he had not only fixed it but gave me a clear explanation as to why I have been on the odyssey of the broken headlight all this time (6 months). He took the time to get to the root of the problem instead of blindly replacing the entire system. This saved me a minimum of 1,000 in parts and likely more in labor. I am mostly touched by his kindness...if you are feeling like you want a trustworthy mechanic take your car to Precision and you will feel like a valued customer.
